This 5 days eastern lowland gorilla trekking trip to Kahuzi Biega National Park in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Hike Mount Nyiragongo to the summit of the active lava lake, on your trip you will get to track eastern lowland gorillas which are listed as a critically endangered species.

Detailed Itinerary for the 5 Days Kahuzi Biega National Park Tour

Day 1: Pick – up from Kigali and Transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park

The arrival of your international flight, meet your driver-guide at Kigali International Airport and transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park for about 7 hours through Nyungwe Forest National Park. On your journey, you will be able to see the scenic views of Rwanda’s countryside filled with breathtaking and terraced hills in Rusizi. You will have a stopover for lunch, You will then proceed with your drive through the Cyangugu border, crossing over to Bukavu town in the Democratic Republic of Congo, then continue with your journey to Kahuzi Biega National Park, check into your reserved lodge, refresh, relax, dinner will be served, and overnight stay.

 Day 2: Trek lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park

Early morning breakfast will be served at your lodge, meet your driver-guide, and transfer to the park headquarters for about an hour, check-in and gather with fellow tourist in the briefing room, pay attention to the senior ranger guide on the dos and don’ts while in the Park, after briefing, you will then set off into the forest at 08.00 to trek lowland gorillas in their natural habitat, visits last 1 hour, and the mountainous hike to find the lowland gorillas can take anywhere from 1 hour to 5 hours depending on their movements in the forest. Once a family is located you will be given 1 hour to spend with lowland gorillas. After an hour with the primates, you will then go back to the park headquarters, meet your driver-guide and drive back to your reserved lodge refresh, relax, dinner will be served and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Goma

Enjoy your early morning breakfast, you will then take a speed boat from Bukavu to Goma for about 3 hours, meet your driver-guide and transfer to Goma. Check-in at your booked lodge refresh, relax, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Climb Nyiragongo Volcano in Virunga National Park

After early morning breakfast, meet your driver-guide and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing, after briefing, you will start hiking Nyiragongo Volcano for about 4 to 6 hours to reach the summit. Enjoy the view from the crater and watch the lava lake inside. Dinner and overnight stay at the summit

Day 5: Descend Nyiragongo Volcano

After breakfast, you will descend to Goma and arrive at Kibati in the afternoon, meet your driver-guide and transfer to Goma for lunch and after lunch; you will then transfer to Kigali international airport to catch up on your international flight back home.
